WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Willie Stargell Foundation awarded $120,000 to Novant for the Willie “Pops” Stargell Dialysis Center.

Stargell’s widow, Margaret, and the president of the Willie Stargell Foundation, Andrew Givens, presented the check on Tuesday, May 28, to the president of Novant Health.

Ernie Bovio says today’s donation will make a difference.

“Their contributions help us find dialysis machines, services programs, and staffing needs. We have a dedicated nurse to help with dialysis treatment so it’s been a really great relationship,” Bovio said.

The Stargell Foundation was created the year after Willie Stargell died in 2001.

Over the past 22 years, the foundation has presented close to $900,000 to the local hospital.
