We can’t let China win the battle of technology — Laura Welch

Must read

Not a month goes by that we don’t hear about another Chinese tech crime. With hacking attacks, outright stealing of technology and secret police networks in the United States, it seems China has no line when it comes to its desire to overtake the U.S. as the world’s No. 1 superpower.

China’s leaders have made no secret of their desire to overtake the U.S. both in economic and military power. Their leaders have also drawn the battlefield — technology.

We cannot allow an undemocratic country with China’s awful history on human rights to overtake the U.S. We must not only shore up our military’s technology to fight off these Chinese attacks, but we must support U.S. technology companies to ensure they continue to lead the world in innovation.

Federal law enforcement seems to finally understand the threat that China poses to the U.S. Our policymakers need to take this threat seriously as well. We need to pass policies that support our U.S. tech sector and kill the ideas that make it harder for U.S. tech companies to compete with China’s government-sponsored tech companies in the global marketplace.
