TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Valeo Behavioral Health held its annual Pride Month event with coffee and mental health resources for community members.

Valeo teamed up with the Blind Barista, a coffee shop trailer, to offer coffee at its “Wake up with Pride” event as Valeo members handed out bracelets, flags, and information about mental health resources in the community.

10% of the sales the Blind Barista earned is donated back to Valeo.

Aimee Copp-Hasty, Corporate Development Director for Valeo Behavioral Health, says the LGBTQ+ population can have a higher incidence of mental health stress due to the treatment they sometimes face and announcing their preference to friends and family. So, Copp-Hasty wants anyone in the LGBTQ+ community to know they have others they can lean on if they need support.

”We celebrate pride every June here at Valeo because what we have found in this population of individuals is that they do have a higher incidence of mental health stress and distress just due to identifying with this population,” said Copp-Hasty. “So, they can suffer from isolation, loneliness, trauma from or coming out to their friends and family, and so, there is support that is needed sometimes for these folks and here at Valeo, we are here to offer that.”
