Underrated city overlooked by tourists because it’s nowhere near the seaside

Nottingham holds many hidden treasures worth a visit from Robin Hood history to independent cafes, there’s something for everyone.

Often overlooked due to it being some 80 miles and two hours from the nearest seaside town Skegness, the Midlands city has a vibrant nightlife, excellent shopping options as well as art and nature spots.

The River Trent is the third longest river in England and is a great walking spot not far from the city centre. The Trent Embankment is just 15 minutes walk from the city and you can begin your walk around the river here. The Embankment pub is a great spot for a riverside lunch or drink on your way back.

Another “must visit place” is Wollaton Hall and Park. The famous hall makes an appearance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises as Wayne Manor. In the park, you’ll find deer roaming freely and in summer there are often open theatre events which take place in the grounds.

Encased in an iconic gold building you’ll find Nottingham Contemporary, an art exhibition featuring international art which has been called innovative and refreshing.

The building also features one of the most popular cafes in Nottingham – Blend. Known for its coffee, grilled cheeses and sweet treats, Blend is a peaceful and artistic cafe to grab lunch at.

Underneath the bustling city is a network of 800 caves which you can have a tour of, lasting around 45 minutes. One visitor said: “This was brilliant! A very interesting and informative place.
