LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Fewer people are dying from drugs in Michigan, according to a Q1 report by the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Forensic Pathology Services.

UM Health-Sparrow released its Q1 report on drug-related deaths in seven counties, including Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, Livingston, and Shiawassee, in which it serves as medical examiner.

Their report found that excluding the overall number of drug-related deaths from Jan. 1 to March 30, 2024, was the lowest for the same period since 2019. This excludes Clinton and Livingston counties.

Meanwhile, UM Health-Sparrow said drug-related deaths during Q1 were slightly higher than in the last quarter of 2023.

The report and other forensic pathology findings can be found on the UM Health-Sparrow website and click on the “2024 Q1 Drug Report.”
