SMALL BUSINESS SHOUT-OUT: Goodnight Spirits

Must read

ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – “’What do you think about opening a liquor store?’ And I was like, ‘yes!’”

Soon, these empty shelves may be your new favorite local liquor store. And it doesn’t get any more local than the Goodnights.

“One of my relatives is Charles Goodnight,” Kienan Goodnight said. “He was a well-known cattle rancher, cattle driver and Texas Ranger. Our families, between my grandfather’s side, the Goodnights side, and my grandmother’s side… we’ve been in Texas around 200 years.”

Piper and Kienan Goodnight want Goodnight Spirits to be an homage to not only their family history, but to West Texas culture and history.

“We want the history of Charles Goodnight and the background of that, but also just the history of West Texas. We wanted a very unique liquor store experience. We don’t want it to be like every other liquor store,” Piper Goodnight said.

“We want to make it very unique in that it is paying homage to our name but it’s West Texas. We’re a very unique place. And we’re very lucky to have that, we’re kind of isolated from the rest of the world. We keep the world running out here,” Kienan Goodnight said.

A father of four and an active police officer, Kienan Goodnight isn’t leaving his job with the Midland Police Department behind. But, he says juggling the two passions is nothing he cant handle.

“I’m not alone. A lot of the police officers I work with, we’re hustlers. We work 60, 70 hours a week sometimes. They’re all go-getters, just like everybody else in Midland. It’s gonna be interesting but it’s something we can handle.”

By the end of June, the Goodnights hope to be your friendly neighborhood liquor store. Goodnight Spirits is located at 4601 Cross Pointe Drive in Midland. For more information on their opening date, find them on Facebook @GoodnightSpirits.
