SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The Shreveport Fire Department has been presented with a check by a local hospital system to buy some new equipment.

On Tuesday, June 11, Willis Knighton Health gave the SFD a check for $54,000 to buy equipment to outfit six new Dodge Ram pickups that are used for emergency response by SFD’s fire investigation unit. Willis Knighton Health President and CEO Jaf Fielder gave the check to SFD Chief Clarence Reese at a special ceremony Wednesday afternoon, which was held at SFD Station No. 8 on Greenwood Road.

SFD officials say the department recently bought six new crew cab trucks to replace an aging fleet of vehicles used by its fire investigators. However, specific equipment is needed for the trucks before they can be put into service. SFD says the new equipment will be used to safely transport gear and tools for render-safe procedures of hazardous devices found in the department’s response area. The trucks will also be outfitted so the department can properly store and transport person protective equipment.

“A lot of times, the men and women firefighters don’t know exactly what situations that they’re being dispatched into. We want to make sure that they’re outfitted for any type of situation so that they can appropriately respond, keep themselves safe, and keep our community safe,” Fielder said.
