BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – Players grabbed their paddles and took part in a pickleball exhibition in Biloxi this week.

The open-play exhibition and senior health fair is a way to keep the aging population young and healthy.

The Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District teamed up with Mississippi Gulf Coast Pickleball to make this happen at the Donal Snyder Community Center.

One player says she moved across the country to play here on the Coast.

“I moved to Biloxi for pickleball because it’s so great, and I know they have the best program in the whole nation,” said player Amy Ostlund. “I came here for the free lessons and the free play. I got cardiovascular exercise, weight loss, balance control and memory help.”

“It’s easy to learn, and anybody can play it,” said volunteer coordinator Tom Linenberger. “We have some players that are quite good- level five players- but we have a lot of folks that are level three players and recreational players.”

This was the fourth year the health fair has been held.
