Peach County has been awarded $6.6 million from the state of Georgia to facilitate investment in rural parts of the state and bolster transportation infrastructure.

According to the Peach County Board of Commissioners, the large award is part of an even larger $16.6 million in loans and grants to help fund five transportation infrastructure projects across the state. The funds were approved by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and the State Road and Tollway Authority Board of Directors (SRTA).

The $6.6 million to Peach County has fully met the funding requests for the Lily Creek Road project. Now, the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB) will make way for the paving of a dirt road that provides access to over 1,000 acres of land and improve connectivity.

The Board of Commissioners said Peach County has faced persistent challenges in ensuring the safety of Lily Creek Road due to its unpaved condition.

Board Chairman Martin H. Moseley affirmed his gratitude to the state for the timely financial support.

“We are appreciative of the commitment by the SRTA and its Board of Directors, led by Governor Kemp, to prioritize the transportation improvement needs of small communities such as ours.”

The approved $6.6 million in funding was awarded to Peach County in the form of a $5.6 million loan and a $1 million grant.
