PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – A multi-million dollar water system improvement project is underway in Mineral Wells.

Officials with the Mineral Wells Public Service District and the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Office appeared at the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department for a groundbreaking on the project Tuesday afternoon.

USDA Rural Development invested $3.6 million into the project.

Rural Development State Director Ryan Thorn said the infrastructure improvement project is going to improve water service for over 2500 customers of the Mineral Wells PSD.

“In Mineral Wells, Wood County, and throughout West Virginia, our infrastructure is aging,” Thorn said. “But thanks to things like the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the president’s laser-focus on rural infrastructure, we’re able to replace some of that aging infrastructure.

The Mineral Wells project will replace over 2700 feet of water main in the district.

Thorn said it’s one of just 76 projects across the state that USDA Rural Development has invested in since 2021.
