Novant Health offering ‘Hospital at Home’ program

Must read

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Novant Health announced its “Hospital at Home” program for southeastern N.C. in April, offering at-home services to save eligible patients a trip to the hospital.

Patients in the program get a daily virtual visit from a physician for assessment. Their care team monitors vital signs like blood pressure, temperature and oxygen level, and the patient has 24/7 access to a registered nurse that coordinates care from a hub inside the hospital.

Novant Health community paramedics taking part in the program make home visits to assess the patients twice daily as well.

Christy Spivey and Jim Mistovich, with Novant Health, spoke with WECT about the program.

“The care is going to look like the same care you’re gonna see inside the hospital, you know, the only difference is gonna be on your couch, or in your recliner next to your family or pets,” Mistovich said. “We can do things such as IV antibiotics, you know, breathing treatments, if you require additional testing, we can do blood draws or analysis. You know, just in you the exact same care you’re gonna get in the hospital just in the comfort of your home.”
