CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A new exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum Center might inspire visitors to take care of their own health.

The museum center officially opened its newest, permanent exhibit on Thursday. It’s called Advancing Health and it’s presented by Mayfield Brain & Spine.

The new exhibit turns the body inside out, revealing how it works, the steps to keep it healthy, and the breakthroughs that help people get back to good health. Advancing Health features body systems with interactives stations to let visitors power them. Giant alveoli demonstrate how a person’s lungs work and how gas is exchanged as people inflate their lungs.

Visitors can even try their hand at a laparoscopic procedure and discover firsthand the benefits to patients as well as the challenges for surgeons.

“If people understand how their body operates, if they understand how interconnected it is, how to keep it healthy, how to keep it operating optimally, they can lead longer, healthier, fuller lives,” said Cody Hefner, vice president of marketing and communications at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Nine areas of the body are highlighted in the exhibit. Here’s what’s unique about it:

“Not only are we showcasing health care professionals in each of these nine areas in these focused disciplines in this exhibit, we’re focusing on a community member alongside them, someone who has osteoporosis, someone who has atrial fibrillation and what their life is like when they receive that diagnosis, and how medical innovations or medical professionals are helping them overcome that and live their full life through it,” Hefner said.
