In today’s fast-paced world, mothers often find themselves juggling between personal and professional lives. Leaving little to no time for herself. This may not affect her health initially but will definitely take a toll on her physical and mental well-being in the long run. Watching your mom age is more difficult than words can describe. Hence, this Mother’s day gift your mother the love and care she deserves. Making simple lifestyle changes in her schedule will help her live longer.

We got in touch with Dr Chitwan Dubey, Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dr LH Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, Mumbai who has shared some simple yet effective lifestyle changes your mother must follow for a healthy long life.

Here are five lifestyle modifications you may assist your mom with for healthy ageing:

1. Nutritious Diet:

Dr Chitwan Dubey shares, sit together and plan out her weekly diet. As we grow older, our bones get weak, which increases the risk of getting affected by heart disease, high BP, and diabetic issues. So it’s better to plan out a diet weekly that is easy to digest and has lots of protein, fibre, and calcium in it.

2. Daily Exercise:

Dr Chitwan Dubey shares the second most evident mantra is to exercise daily to maintain good blood circulation. Strenuous physical exercise should be avoided, as age weakens muscles and bones. However, activities such as yoga, morning and evening walks, and moving around the house should be encouraged.

3. Massage Therapy:

“In India, massages have been considered the best therapy for ages. They’re not just great for your mom; they’re believed to help improve blood flow and ease tension in muscles. Plus, they’re thought to be good for bones and joints,” Dr Chitwan Dubey said.

4. Pay Attention To Her Medical History:

Dr Chitwan Dubey explains knowing your mother’s medical history is essential before making any decisions about her diet or exercise. For example, if she has diabetes, you may wish to limit their sugar intake. Similarly, if she has excessive cholesterol or blood pressure, you may want to limit their fat and salt intake.

5. Take Care Of Their Mental Health

Dr Chitwan Dubey explains that the mental health of your elderly parents needs as much attention as their physical health. Nothing can nourish it better than making them feel loved and wanted. This can be accomplished by spending quality time with them and ensuring that they have a strong social group.
