MCLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) – Carle Behavioral Health in Normal hosted an event on the Illinois Wesleyan University campus on Monday aimed at starting a public conversation about mental health.

Organizers want to promote understanding and support for those struggling with mental illness. Community members had the opportunity to gain insights into the importance of mental health care and the resources available through open dialogue and education.

”What I hope that people will get from this is that it’s important to talk about mental health, to just have discussions and to talk to different people about it. It affects all of us, so the fact that we can all talk about it, that is the important thing to me” said Burgundy Johnson, child psychiatrist at Carle Behavioral Health.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the U.S.
