Music and dance

The Redwood Raks Collective will present “Swingin’ Under The Stars” Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Redwood Raks World Dance Studio, 824 L St., Arcata.

Music will be provided by the CR Big Band. The evening will also include a dance lesson and demos, complimentary snacks, sodas and wine for purchase and door prizes. Entry is $10.

Marsh tour

Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free 90-minute tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.

Meet leader Barbara Reisman at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street. This event will be held rain or shine.

Topics will include an overview of the wastewater treatment process, followed by a special emphasis on native and non-native plants. For more information, call 707-826-2359.

Quilters meet

“Quilting at the Grange” takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Freshwater Grange, 49 Grange Road, Freshwater.

The cost is $15 general and $5 for grange members. Those attending can either work on their own projects (bring patterns, fabric and sewing equipment) or use a free “Lady Luck” quilt pattern from MODA Fabrics. Theater event

The Dream Quest Drama Club will present “The Wizard of Oz/Deleted Scenes,” a short play by Eddie McPherson, on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. on stage at the Kimtu Cookhouse, 151 Kimtu Road, Willow Creek.

There is no set admission fee. Donations are encouraged to support the nonprofit Dream Quest program, which provides youth with healthy vocational, educational and creative opportunities to imagine and build their dreams. For more information, call Dream Quest at 530-629-3564.

Swedish pancakes

A Swedish pancake breakfast will take place Sunday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. The cost is $10.

Garden workday

A McKinleyville Botanical Garden workday is set for Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in Hiller Park. (To get there, go west on Hiller Road to the parking lot for the Hammond Trail/soccer field/dog park. The garden is adjacent to children’s playground.)

Volunteers are needed to help restore this small, community driven botanical garden, which features pollinator and bird-friendly plants. No experience is necessary. Volunteers will also learn about native plants and can take home some cuttings. Once volunteers have learned the ropes, they can work on days of their choosing.

Volunteer workdays are held the third Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m., except for June when it’s at the same time, but on the second Sunday.

Dance party

A dance featuring live music and “a great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.

Rutabaga mixer

A Rutabaga mixer will take place May 23 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Phatsy Kline’s Parlor Lounge, Second and C streets, Eureka.

All are welcome to enjoy snacks and drinks while meeting the 2024 Rutabaga Queen contestants and raising funds for Kinetics. Phatsy Kline’s will donate $1 from every alcoholic beverage sold straight to Kinetics. For more information, email OG247burlesque@gmail.com.
