Must read

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The overpass on Marion Berry Parkway could look a little different in the future.

The Jonesboro Finance and Administration Council Committee has moved a resolution to the full council to submit an application for funds from the Transportation Alternative Program.

The city is requesting a $500,000 grant from the program for a new pedestrian infrastructure on the overpass.

With a local match of $1,006,227 and an additional 1% Arkansas Department of Transportation administrative fee of $5,000, calculated from the TAP Federal share, for a total of $1,506,227

City officials say that currently, the west side of the overpass is planned to be a shared roadway for non-motorized vehicles, while the east side will be designated for pedestrians. The east side is also planned to be ADA accessible, connecting to part of Arkansas State’s athletic complex.

The full council is expected to vote on the resolution at their next meeting.
