Is the cost of mental health treatment rising?

Must read

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – May is Mental Health Awareness Month, but are the cost of services increasing?

According to a study from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), an online health forum that addresses health policies, spending on mental health services has spiked 53% from 2020 to 2022and researchers are unsure if the trend will continue.

We spoke to three experts in the state that are telling us the same thing. Costs are going up for both the patient and the provider.

Some healthcare providers are not taking certain insurance because of a lag in reimbursement from the insurance companies.

Dr. Cynae Adams, a mental health provider with Wellness Within, tells us she’s owed thousands of dollars for her services.

“as of today, I have over 150 claims that have not been reimbursed. Probably actually more than that and resulting in over $10,000 of money of services that have not been rendered that we have not been paid for,” Adams said.
