ICC puts USA cricket board on notice, announces review of 2024 T20 World Cup | Read Why

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has put on USA Cricket and Chile cricket on notice for their non-compliance of the associate member eligibility criteria. The news was shared by the apex cricket body on Monday (Jul 22) post their Annual General Meeting (AGM) which ran from July 19-22 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

“Neither member is considered to have in place a fit for purpose detailed governance and administrative structure and systems,” said the ICC in an official release.

 “The ICC Americas office will work with Cricket Chile to support them in remedying their non-compliance. The board agreed that a normalisation committee comprising of board and management representatives will be set up to oversee and monitor USA Cricket’s compliance roadmap and the ICC board will reserve its right to suspend or expel the member for continued non-compliance,” it added.

Both the cricket boards have 12 months’ time to fix issues, failing which they could be suspended by the ICC.

The ICC also initiated a review in 2024 T20 World Cup, setting up a three-member panel to review the whole tournament which ran from June 2 to 29 in the USA and Caribbean.

Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo and Imran Khawaja have been named to the panel and will submit their report to the ICC later this year.

There were reports of over expenditure on the USA leg of the tournament and organisation part in the Caribbean after the tournament got over.

Among other things discussed at the meet attended by all of its 108 members, the ICC has decided to expand the Women’s T20 World Cup to 16 teams from 2030 edition.

ICC started the women’s edition of the T20 World Cup with eight team in 2009. It rose to 10 teams in 2014 edition which will continue till the 2024 edition later this year. A total of 12 teams will participate in 2026 edition before rising to 16 in 2030.
