Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $127 million investment to enhance technology and equipment for police departments and sheriffs’ offices outside New York City. The funding, secured in the FY 2025 Enacted Budget, will support 378 law enforcement agencies that applied for state funding last fall.

Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of public safety and the need for modern resources to protect communities. The grants will allow police departments to purchase equipment such as license plate readers, camera systems, dispatch software, drones, and gunshot detection devices. This investment aims to help law enforcement agencies more effectively prevent and solve crimes.

The State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) informed agencies of their grant awards today. Over half of the funding will support license plate readers, body-worn cameras, patrol vehicle equipment, and public safety camera systems. Commissioner Rossana Rosado praised Governor Hochul for addressing the needs of law enforcement and community organizations across the state.
