BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A new state-of-the-art hospital facility is coming to Bessemer. Thursday, community and health leaders are gathered to cut the ribbon at the new ‘UAB West’ location.

UAB and health leaders tell WBRC that this new nine story hospital facility will give you access to the latest in medical treatment.

The facility will have 200 hospital beds and a new medical office building on site.

The facility boasts a new surgical and endoscopy suite, operating rooms, more intensive care beds, and state-of-the-art imaging technology.

I caught up with Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley about the development, and he couldn’t be more excited for Bessemer neighbors.

“It is one of those things that I kid about that I hope I never have to take advantage of, but if I do, I like to know that I am getting state-of-the-art care. That is what I am looking forward to and that is what I saw when I toured UAB West,” said Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley.

While Thursday was the ribbon cutting, the facility wont open to patients until early August. They are asking you continue to go to the existing facility until this one opens.
