Harry’s UK trip is a reminder of one key detail about the monarchy, says expert

Must read

Prince Harry was in the UK last week but wasn’t able to meet with King Charles, which is disappointing but not all that surprising to the hosts of Podcast Royal because “the crown comes first.”

In the latest episode of the US-based podcast, co-host Rachel Burchfield said of the turn of events: “The Invictus Games 10-Year Anniversary is a big deal, I mean, it’s monumental.

“It’s times like these when you remember this is a business, the crown comes first.” Harry was in the UK for the Invictus Games 10-Year Anniversary and hosted a reception at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Charles had a standing engagement, hosting the first Buckingham Palace Garden Party of the year, the same day as the Invictus Games reception held at St Paul’s Cathedral.

While Harry’s immediate family didn’t come out to support him, his late mother’s sister and brother did attend the event.

Jessica Robinson, co-host, said: “I don’t know if I’m all that surprised, it’s kind of a brief stopover in the UK, and the king does have a full schedule.

“It is challenging when you have two people with very full schedules, and they’re crossing paths.”

Ms Robinson says she would be surprised if Harry was in town for an extended stay and his father refused to see him, but that wasn’t the case.

While Ms Burchfield understands “the crown comes first,” she still empathises with Harry, saying, “I’m disappointed for Harry, they only saw each other briefly back in February, it was only 30 minutes, I wish things were different.”
