HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Rocktown Urban Wood in Harrisonburg has set its roots in the business of transforming trees into furniture.
Ned Gearing and Rhett Miles opened their business in 2019 and have been longtime partners with Harrisonburg Public Works as they work to convert fallen trees downtown into brand new furniture. Gearing said seeing the companies work in the public eye is a special feeling.
”I love it. I was thinking about it on my drive home yesterday. We’re getting pretty close to having 100 different pieces, projects, furniture pieces — something like that — in downtown businesses in Harrisonburg right now,” Gearing said. “They’re easy to work with. We kind of always seem to hit similar wavelengths.”
Gearing said he hopes to see his work grow across the area for years to come and continue his partnerships with the community.
“We build it to our own standards, and so when you kind of create that relationship with the projects, you want to go see them,” Gearing said. “You want to see how they’re doing. You want to see how the businesses are doing.”
