Florence business raided during drug investigation

FLORENCE, Ala. (WAFF) – Two Florence business owners were arrested after a drug raid Thursday, according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office.

The Lauderdale County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at HT General Merchandise also known as Townsley’s on Highway 17. The business is just south of Wilson High School.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office says deputies found more than 200 bottles of tianeptine and multiple packs of kratom inside an ice machine in the rear of the business. Deputies also found $12,000 which they said was used to buy the drugs. The drugs were allegedly hidden in the back of the store and customers were not able to see them. Tianteptine and Kratom are both controlled substances in the state of Alabama.

Investigators say the investigation started after they received numerous reports about illegal drug sales in the area.

Phuong Van Trinh and Trang Thuy Trinh were both arrested. Phuong Van Trihn was charged with trafficking a controlled substance and five counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Trang Thuy Trinh was charged with trafficking a controlled substance and six counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
