OKEMOS, Mich. (WILX) – A special lacrosse game at Okemos High School on Thursday. Mental health organizations set up booths to discuss a difficult topic with parents and students.

“Doctor’s offices are always scary so to put a face with the name and the vision, I think it’s helpful for the students to see us out there,” said Sarah Zielinski, a physician assistant.

The event was held by Eli’s Project, a non-profit organization founded by Dr. Zach Goldstein, in honor of his son Eli Fleetwood who tragically died by suicide when he was 15.

“If he was still here he would enjoy the work we were doing,” said Goldstein.

Goldstein said there has been a crisis around mental health for the past several years. Eli’s Project hopes to change those statistics, connecting with as many families and preteens as possible.

“I feel it’s great that kids have somewhere that they can turn to,” said Nelina Trevino, a parent to Okemos High School Students.
