Until today Ali Orr’s best score in a Hampshire shirt had been 26.
But after a frustrating start to the season, the former Sussex batsman has reached his first century for his new side.
He batted nicely through the morning. He was watchful and had 52 on the board from 99 balls come lunch. His century came in 168 deliveries and included 16 fours.
There was a scare just after lunch when he edged Matty Potts through the slip cordon for four, in an over which conceded four of them, as the bowler showed his frustration at a chance gone.
There was at least one scare when he got into the 90s. A leading edge from a Callum Parkinson ball just dropped in front of Ben Raine at short mid-wicket. It was heart-in-the-mouth stuff for Orr for a few moments.
