City of Knoxville, emergency responders, see problems amid technology outage

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The City of Knoxville is seeing problems following a worldwide technology outage, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

Overnight Thursday, several Microsoft 365 apps and other services were disrupted, causing complications for airports, banks and other industries.

According to KFD, fire department systems went down early in the morning, prompting city personnel to act quick to get things back online.

WVLT News reached out to Knox County 911, and representatives said they had to use a backup system to take calls and dispatch responders before the primary system return to operation around 4:45 a.m.

In addition to all of this, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security said the outage caused issues for driver services centers.

However, according to KFD, all essential services, like police, fire and emergency responses, are operational.
