Boy, 10, dead after freak cricket practice incident

A 10-year-old boy has died after being hit in the groin by a cricket ball while practising his bowling.

The victim, identified as Shaurya Kalidas Khandve, passed away shortly after leaving the Jagad Guru Sports Academy in Pune, India, on May 2.

The freak incident was captured on camera.

The clip shows a young cricketer wearing a dark red T-shirt and playing against a wall on a multi-sports court.

He takes a run-up and bowls the solid ball, which flies back at him quicker than expected.

It rebounds into his groin area and he doubles over in pain.

The victim drops to the ground at first, then stands up and dusts himself off before collapsing again seconds later.

Several of his friends go to check on the motionless boy before administering CPR and carrying him off the court to get medical help.

Doctors at a nearby private hospital pronounced Shaurya dead on arrival.

Police spokesperson, Sachin Dhamane confirmed that an investigation into the boy’s death is underway.

Officers are currently interviewing witnesses and awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Shaurya, also known as Shambhu, was a sports lover who dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler, as reported by NeedToKnow.

A case of accidental death has been registered at the Pune Airport Police Station.

His death has left the local community in shock.
