Baptist Health opened its new Central Pharmacy Services Center in Oldham County Wednesday, a move aimed at reducing medication prices and getting specialty medications to those who need them faster.

The $40 million facility at 1051 New Moody Lane is expected to create 200 new jobs and features a warehouse with a robotic infrastructure that will be able to fill 14,000 prescriptions in a 10-hour shift.

The 102,000-square-foot facility will also help students prepare to earn a pharmacy technician certification at the Arvin Education Center.

“We look forward to the students in our biomedical sciences pathway benefiting from the opportunities this facility will provide and ultimately, a future pathway within Oldham County schools for our students interested in pharmaceutical sciences,” Oldham County Schools Superintendent Jason Radford said.

Center fulfillment manager Amanda Shelly said patients will save money thanks to simplified ways of getting their prescriptions, like being able to receive medications by mail. Cancer and rheumatology patients will also be able to receive their medicines in less time.

“In the traditional community pharmacy, [there’s] a lot of … human interaction with the meds, whether it be counting the medication,” Shelly said. “This is taking that human element out of it.”

The services provided by the Central Pharmacy Services Center are available to any patient in the state and existing prescriptions can be transferred to the center at any time. Interested patients can contact the call center at 502-565-0000.
